IONIA COUNTY, Mich.

The Savvy Caregiver Program is an evidenced-based program model designed to train family and professional caregivers in the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to handle the challenges of caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease and to be an effective caregiver.
It is a 12-hour training program/course that is usually delivered in two-hour group sessions over a six-week period. The program focuses on helping caregivers think about their situation objectively and providing them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to manage stress and carry out the care-giving role effectively.
Ionia County Community Mental Health provides Savvy Caregiver groups approximately three times a year. It is a wonderful opportunity of anyone involved in caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementias to connect with others in the community that are going through similar journeys and connecting with local supports.
